National Book Lovers Day
Did you know that August 9th is National Book Lovers Day? This is the day we put down our phones, iPads, computers … and let our imaginations soar with books! Apparently many countries celebrate National Book Lovers Day, but no one knows its origin. Personally, I think a day dedicated to reading a book is a great idea!
I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen a text message pop up on the pages of a book. An AI button has never waited at the end of a chapter to tempt me onto rabbit trails. And I also think I comprehend information better by reading a book. I can sometimes remember whether the quote I’m seeking is on the left or right page, at the bottom or top. But with my computer, I can never remember how to add a header to a document or how to send my signature electronically–even if I just did it the day before.
So… in honor of National Book Lovers Day, I’m giving away a free book! (I will insert the picture if I can remember how.)

The title is Catching Christmas, by Terri Blackstock. This book will touch your heart as it draws you into the lives of an outspoken octogenarian, her cynical cab driver, and an overworked granddaughter. You’ll laugh out loud, wipe away tears, and wish for a sequel. Terri Blackstock, a best-selling author, weaves a story you’ll remember long after the last page. And what better way to beat the heat than by reading a story set during the holidays! If you receive my blogs in your email, you’re already entered for the drawing! If you aren’t a subscriber, feel free to sign up on my website. I will draw a name on Monday, August 10 and notify the winner by email.
A final thought: This year, National Book Lovers Day falls on a Sunday. How appropriate, when you consider the best-selling book of all times is the Holy Bible. Written over a span of 1500 years, on three different continents, by over 40 authors, the Bible presents the unified theme of man’s need for redemption and God’s provision through His Son Jesus. For centuries, God’s word has brought comfort, guidance, purpose, and wisdom to everyone who seeks Him. Isaiah 40:8 proclaims “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”
So on National Book Lovers Day, and every day afterward, set aside time to read the Bible–the greatest love story ever written.
